When you’re in your twenties, you spend a lot of time serving as a bridesmaid.

It’s an honor and you’re thrilled for your friends, but there’s also a significant cost involved.

Additionally, the process can to dig at your ego slightly if you’re single and everyone in your life is sending out save the dates. Janessa James, of Virginia, is no stranger to this phenomenon. James instantly became America’s most relatable bridesmaid after she posted this hilarious shot, taken during one of her friend’s bridal portrait sessions.

This is how I am currently feeling about Wedding and engagement season coming up… {Yes, this is an actual photo of me (extremely single) helping my best friend with her bridals. The photographer asked me to throw her train up and then dive out of the shot, and so I did. Very theatrically.} from wedding

James can be seen dramatically diving into a field, as her pal and her new husband remain locked in a kiss. James explains that the photographer had asked her to throw her friend’s train up in order to get the right look for the shot, and then quickly dive out of the way so she wouldn’t be seen in the photo. “And so I did. Very theatrically,” James writes.

The end result is hilarious, and perfectly depicts the thoughts many bridesmaids have as they carry out their duties.
