(Fayetteville, N.C.) – The City, in conjunction with assistance from FEMA, will be collecting storm-related debris beginning on Sept. 24. Residents are asked to be patient with storm debris pickup; it may take weeks to be completed. Numerous passes will be made through each neighborhood to ensure all debris is collected.
Residents should place the following items at the curb in three separate piles; DO NOT MIX THE PILES:
- Vegetative Debris: Place logs (no length restriction), plants and larger tree branches in one combined pile at the curb. Containerize leaves, small branches and twigs, pine straw and pine cones in yard waste containers.
- Construction and Demolition Debris: Place building materials, carpet, drywall, furniture, lumber, mattresses and plumbing items in one combined pile at the curb.
- Appliances and White Goods: Place air conditioners, dishwashers, freezers, refrigerators, stoves, washers, dryers and water heaters at the curb in one combined pile.
Debris should be placed on the grass or the driveway and within seven feet of the curb. This is because the trucks picking up debris are limited in their reach.
Debris should NOT be placed in the road, under a tree, next to a pole, under power lines or obstructed by anything else. Do not park cars in front of your piles, as it will prohibit the trucks from accessing the piles.
The following items should be taken to County landfills or container sites:
- Electronics: All electronics, including computers, radios, stereos, televisions and other corded devices.
- Household Hazardous Waste. All household hazardous waste, including cleaning supplies, batteries, lawn chemicals, oils, oil-based paints and stains and pesticides.
Residents should see which container sites take these items by logging onto.
Normal household trash, recycling and bagged debris of any kind will not be picked up with storm debris. Residents should continue following their normal trash, yard waste and recycling schedules for these items.
