The first fatality in North Carolina due to Tropical Storm Michael has just been reported.

According to WBTV, a tree fell on a car in Statesville this afternoon, as Michael continued to move inland through North Carolina.

One person inside the vehicle died due to injuries sustained during the ordeal.

Emergency crews were able to reach the car, however, they could not save the victim.

At this time, it’s not known if there were any passengers inside the vehicle at the time the incident occurred.

The victim’s identity has not been released to the public yet.
