The team here at WKML has been slinging out great music to you all year. But what are the tracks that have stood out most to the team in 2018? Here’s a look at everybody’s favorite from the world of country (and maybe a little beyond) for the year, now with our behind-the-scenes Digital Programming Director, Brandon P.!

Behind the Scenes

1. BRETT YOUNG – “MERCY”

In all actuality, this whole Brett Young album could really be my Top 5. He was my 2nd most listened to artist of the year behind only Jason Isbell. But to help make this list a little more engaging, I’m just picking the one track that blew me away the most from the album…or maybe it was “In Case You Didn’t Know”…man, this is hard.

2. ASHLEY MONROE – “HANDS ON YOU”

This is the good stuff. If you haven’t discovered Ashley Monroe yet, this is the track to start with. Sensual and just…brilliant. Monroe’s has already been in your ears as a member of the Pistol Annies, but it’s time you gave her a shot on her own.

3. COLE SWINDELL – “BREAK UP IN THE END”

The best of the best when it comes to heartbreaking love songs this year. Cole paints a picture we all can relate to.

4. KELSEA BALLERINI – “I HATE LOVE SONGS”

That pulsing staccato style just drives one of the best songs of the decade really. Kelsea killed it this year, with this amazing track, and “Legends”, which was nearly my choice for this spot.

5. CAM – “DIANE”

Cam is one of the most gifted women in country, and we got to experience her awesomeness first hand at Stars & Guitars. And this track, which is the “other woman’s” response to Dolly Parton’s classic “Jolene”, was a great gift from Cam.

HONORABLE MENTIONS

It was really hard to just name 5 tracks here. There were so many great ones this year. Here’s a few others that resonated for me in 2018.

  • Maren Morris – “I Could Use a Love Song”
  • Jason Aldean – “Drowns the Whiskey”
  • Kenny Chesney – “Better Boat”
  • Brett Eldredge – “The Long Way Around”
  • Charley Crockett – “That’s How I Got to Memphis”
  • Bradley Cooper – “Maybe It’s Time”
  • Lauren Alaina – “Doin’ Fine”
  • Mitchell Tenpenny – “Drunk Me”
