Wishing For One More Day This Mother's Day

A few days ago, I caught myself listening to a few of my favorite Country songs of the past. As usual when I travel back

I end up down the rabbit hole spending more time there than I probably should. One of the songs was Diamond Rio’s “One More Day” from 2001. From the first time I heard the tune eighteen years ago to today, I just cannot stop myself from reflecting back to special people and moments. I have to be honest. Of all of the holidays, Mother’s Day is one of the toughest for me. Due to my Father’s military service, my Mother had to be both Mom and Dad for a number of years. There are probably a million things to thank Mom for. Mom’s strong faith meant were going to church three times a week. I tell people I had a drug problem as a child. Mom “drug” me and my little brother to church. My only issue with going to church was on Wednesday. As we were leaving for the 730pm prayer meeting, The Arthur Smith Show was coming on tv. I just loved his banjo, guitar, stand-up bass, piano, etc. Other things to thank Mom for include never taking the first bite before giving thanks. My brother and I always and I mean always said yes ma’am & yes sir. If not, we knew the consequences. Call me old fashion, but thanks to Mom, still to this day, I always open the car door for Debbie. Please call me old fashion. I love it. I cannot begin to tell you how grateful I am to have had the Mother I had. Oh, one more thing.  Debbie bought some tomatoes a few days ago. As I was putting them in the shopping cart, I could hear Mom say, “honey, go check the maters, squash and okra in the garden and see if they are ready.” Can I confess that I had to taste-test some of her grape maters to make sure?  Oh to have one more day.

Below are the lyrics to Diamond Rio’s “One More Day.” Let me share them with you and get your reaction. I hope the words mean as much to you as they do to me.

This Mother’s Day, please make absolutely sure your Mother knows how special and important she is.

"One More Day"

Last night I had a crazy dream
A wish was granted just for me
It could be for anything
I didn't ask for money
Or a mansion in Malibu
I simply wished for one more day with you!

One more day, one more time
One more sunset, maybe I'd be satisfied
But then again, I know what it would do
Leave me wishing still for one more day with you
One more day

First thing I'd do is pray for time to crawl
I'd unplug the telephone and keep the tv off
I'd hold you every second
Say a million I love you's
That's what I'd do with one more day with you

One more day, one more time
One more sunset maybe I'd be satisfied
But then again I know what it would do
Leave me wishing still for one more day with you

One more day, one more time
One more sunset maybe I'd be satisfied
But then again I know what it would do
Leave me wishing still for one more day
Leave me wishing still for one more day
Leave me wishing still for one more day with you.
