Keith Urban was on CBS’ “Late Show With Stephen Colbert” last night (3/5) and he talked about his very first concert experience in his native Australia when his parents took he and his brother to see Johnny Cash when Keith was just five years old.
He told Colbert, “Actually the first one he took us to was Johnny Cash when I was five years old. It was crazy I think. That kind of crowd when you’re five years old, it’s insane. They were hammered beyond hammered. Including my dad.”
Urban added of the life-changing experience, “This crowd was so intense and rowdy and I was sitting there with my brother who is two years older than me and we had our little western shirts on and our little bolo ties and I just remember this roar of this crowd and the lights went out and it got even louder and then I remember this guy walking out on stage with a guitar and a spotlight and then he talked and the whole crowd went to this quiet hush. It was amazing.”
Keith started playing guitar not long after that show.
