Dr. Anthony Fauci didn't mince any words in a new interview about various reports alluding to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) being developed in any way in a Chinese lab.

Speaking with National GeographicDr. Fauci said, "If you look at the evolution of the virus in bats and what's out there now, [the scientific evidence] is very, very strongly leaning toward this could not have been artificially or deliberately manipulated…Everything about the stepwise evolution over time strongly indicates that [this virus] evolved in nature and then jumped species."

Dr. Fauci also had strong words regarding the gradual re-opening of businesses, testing and the potential of a second wave of COVID-19 cases.

"Shame on us if we don't have enough tests by the time this so-called return might occur in the fall and winter," said Dr. Fauci. "I don't think there's a chance that this virus is just going to disappear. It's going to be around, and if given the opportunity, it will resurge...Take a look at the guidelines for Opening Up America Again. There are very well delineated checkpoints. There's a gateway where infections must go down for 14 days before you can enter into phase one for reopening. If you fulfill the requirements of phase one, you move to phase two. If you do it there, you go to phase three. So when you see somebody in an environment in which the infections are not going down, and then you see 30 to 40 people on a beach with no mask…well that's very nice to have fun in the sun, but you're really putting yourself and everyone at risk for creating an even bigger spike in infections."
