5:06 p.m. Sunday UPDATE: The National Weather Service Raleigh has issued a Tropical Storm WARNING for Cumberland County and much of the surrounding area. This means tropical storm-force winds are expected within this area within the next 36 hours. Areas affected included Fayetteville, Fort Bragg and the surrounding region.

Original story:

The National Weather Service Raleigh has issued Tropical Storm and Flash Flood Watches for much of the greater Fayetteville area and surrounding counties, as Isaias moves up the East Coast.

The storm is currently downgraded to a Tropical Storm but is expected to restrengthen to hurricane status before a likely landfall in South or North Carolina. Regardless of landfall location, the storm is expected to have impacts across the region, particularly with flooding.

Isaias is expected to converge with an inland weather system to cause potentially 4-6 inches of rain in the area. Impacts east of I-95 will likely be worse, as the wind field for Isaias will likely be worse in that area.

Most of the wind impact will likely be worse on Monday night.

Make sure you are prepared for the storm, particularly given the impacts of the coronavirus (COVID-19) on our region. Normal storm prep is not enough. Check out our storm prep page for tips on getting ready, and to familiarize yourself with local guidance in the case of an emergency.
