The Big Wake Up With Don Chase and Sarah

Weekdays 6:00am-10am

HARDY posing with Sarah and Sarah's friend Gina backstage in Raleigh.

I pinch myself nearly every day with this career! I truly believe I have one of the best jobs ever. The opportunities presented to me are never taken for granted. Working in Country radio, we really appreciate and value our relationships with the artists. So we often get to spend some one-on-one time with them before or after a show.

On June 3rd, I had the awesome chance to go to the Morgan Wallen concert in Raleigh. This was a HUGE show! The turnout was insane and the fans were fired up!

Before the show in Raleigh, we met with Lainey Wilson, HARDY, and Wallen.

You may remember, HARDY and Morgan were on our line-up for Stars & Guitars in 2019. HARDY has been a favorite of mine for some time, but that 2019 show at the Crown solidified just how great of an artist and person he is.

So when we saw him backstage in Raleigh, he gave me a big hug and we talked about just how much our KML listeners LOVED that Stars & Guitars show! I personally want you to know that I relay your messages of love to all our artists!!

Afterward, we started talking about being from small towns. If you didn’t know, HARDY is from Philadelphia, Mississippi. So I casually mentioned the one time I traveled to a small town in Alabama. I woke up from a nap in the middle of the drive, looked over at my significant other driving and said “Where are we?? Is this the part where you kill me??” HARDY and I had a good laugh and then continued our conversation.

Cut to us taking a photo with my phone, and he comments on how big it is and how he’s been considering upgrading to one of the bigger models. I passionately told him NOT to do it, that I was actually not a fan of the bigger phone, and wish I still had the smaller model.

HARDY says “Ok, Ok, I believe you, I won’t do it”. As he starts to walk away, I jokingly say “If you do, you’re HARDY, so I’ll know about it!” He turns to me, smiles, and as he’s walking slowly backwards says back “What are you gonna do, kill me in no where Alabama?….”

It was by far, my favorite interaction of the night! HARDY is the real deal – down to earth, talented, thankful, hard working, funny… all of the best things that you hope your favorite artists are.
