A former detective went viral on TikTok recently for sharing a tip that could potentially save your life while online dating.

Online dating creates a whole lot of reasons to be unsure about your safety, but a recent viral TikTok by a former detective may be saving some lives.

The detective pointed out that photos you post and send online can reveal more information about you than you think, including specific location data in the metadata.

Your home address could be accessible to someone if they looked at the data from a photo you sent them.

But there are ways to help stay safer, including these tips:

  1. Change your phone settings so your location data isn't stored by your camera.
  2. Use social media apps that strip location data from photos.
  3. Take a screenshot of the photo and send the screenshot. It won't have your location info on it.
