Lainey Wilson and Luke Combs knew each other for years as they struggled in Nashville for a handful of years before either of their stars started to rise. In an interview earlier this year, Luke told us that Wilson is on his 2023 tour because they've been friends for years.
Now Lainey has posted a throwback video and a few old photos of her and Combs writing songs and singing together. She captioned the post, "Damn, we've come a long way @lukecombs… time has done us well. Congrats on kicking off your tour tonight! Can't wait to meet ya out there in less than a month and join for the stadium world tour in the spring and summer. Y'all grab your tickets! #middleofsomewheretour #lukecombsworldtour."
One Nashville songwriter commented on the post, "Full circle! Proud of y'all!" Another Nashville musician said, "I remember those kids!!" One fan gushed about the post, "I am obsessed with this. Couple of SUPERSTARS."
Wilson told us in February of 2021, "I'd written songs for this boy named Luke Combs, probably in 2014 or 2015. I had been here for several years before he had moved down, and I'm telling you, as soon as I heard him, I knew there was something special about him. I walked straight up to him, and I said, I want to write with you. I just had this overwhelming feeling that this boy was gonna do something."
She added, "So he came over to my camper trailer because I lived in a camper for the first three years I was here. We've written a handful of songs together, and he ended up cutting one of my own called 'Sheriff You Want To.' And I was singing background vocals on it, but that was still not enough for me to get a publishing deal. But it took me seven years before I even got a publishing deal."
Country music has a new CMA darling this morning (9/7): Lainey Wilson. Miranda Lambert, who has been the CMA's darling for quite some time, posted a headline article to her Insta stories of Lainey topping the CMA's nominations list with six nods total. Lambert wrote over the story, "Hell yeah, she does. Go, friend, go."
Wilson got her very first nominations today, and among her six nods are Album of the Year and Female Vocalist of the Year. Lainey herself posted to her socials when she heard the news, "6 NOMINATIONS!?!? I'm speechless. While I try to find the words, just know that I'm blown away and so so honored and proud to be nominated. Thank you to the entire country music community! @CountryMusic #CMAawards."
With her new CMA fame fresh today, we look at some of the things that Lainey, who is also currently filming her first acting role on Paramount's Yellowstone series this month, has been up to in the last year.
