Did You Feel That? Earthquake Rumbles North Carolina Early Tuesday
Around 5AM on Tuesday, Geologists reported a 2.6 magnitude earthquake near the North Carolina-Virginia border.
On October 25, 2022, about 70 people are said to have even been aware and feel the quake!
The earthquake was about 1.74 miles deep, and according to the U.S. Geological Survey, it hit 6 miles southeast of Independence, Virginia.
Although rare along the East coast of the United States, earthquakes do indeed happen. However, most quakes below a 5.4 magnitude are rarely noticed.
I remember frequently experiencing earthquakes while living in Alaska – they got multiple tremblors almost every day. It became so common that you never gave it a second thought. But I do remember waking up in the middle of the night to one that was so severe, my window shades were shaking and pictures fell off the walls! Talk about a wake-up call!
