Kelsea Ballerini Posts TikTok Video With ‘Friend’ In ‘High Places’

Kelsea Ballerini attended the ASCAP songwriters awards last night in Nashville, where her song “Half Of My Hometown” was honored. Kelsea posted herself posing on the red carpet of the ASCAP awards on her Insta stories, and on her TikTok, she posted a fun video with another ASCAP winner Garth Brooks.

Ballerini posted to TikTok, “friends in high places #garthbrooks #countrymusic.”

In the clip, Kelsea sings, “Oh, I got friends in low places where the whiskey drowns…’ a cowboy hat covers the camera, then Garth Brooks joins her to sing, “and the beer chases my blues away.” Kelsea then says to Garth, “What?” He repeats and laughs, ‘What?”

Fans reacted to the post with one writing, “Legend with a legend.” Another fan commented, “Legendary. Love you both. Keep shining, queen.” One more fan wrote, “Oh my, I am soo jealous!”

Kelsea co-wrote “Half Of My Hometown” with Ross Copperman, Nicolle Galyon, Shane McAnally, and Jimmy Robbins. She sang it as a duet with Kenny Chesney, and the song won for Musical Event and Video of the Year at last year’s (2021) CMA Awards.

The lyrics to “Half Of My Hometown” includes “Half of my high school got too drunk / Half of my high school fell in love / With the girl next door/In their daddy’s Ford / Half of my main street’s mini skirts / Half of my main street’s dressed for church / It could use some rain / And a fresh coat of paint.”

The chorus includes, “Half of my hometown’s still hangin’ around / Still talkin’ about that one touchdown / They’re still wearin’ red and black / “Go Bobcats” while the other half / Of my hometown, they all got out / Some went north, some went south / Still lookin’ for a feelin’ half of us ain’t found / So stay or leave, part of me will always be / Half of my hometown.”

She recently said it was the first song that she ever wrote where she did not come up with the title first; instead, the opening line "Met him at a party/ Accidentally brushed his body/ On the way to get a drink at the bar" was the first lyric she wrote for the song.
