Dolly Parton Received The Courage And Civility Award From Jeff Bezos
Dolly Parton is the latest recipient of the Bezos Courage and Civility Award, which comes with $100 million to distribute to the charities of her choice. Jeff Bezos told CNN, “Look at what she’s done, and the way she’s led her life and the way she’s done is bold things and always with civility and kindness. She’s a unifier. You know we have big problems in the world, and the way you get big problems done is you have to work together.” He added, “We have too many examples of conflict and people using attacks on social media and so and so. You won’t find Dolly Parton doing that.”
Bezos’ partner Lauren Sanchez added, “And when you think of Dolly, look, everyone smiles, right? And all she wants to do is bring light into other people’s worlds, that’s all. And so we couldn’t have thought of someone better than to give this award to Dolly.”
Sanchez posted on Instagram giving the honor to Parton, who accepted it in person. She said, “Wow, did you say 100 million dollars? When people are in a position to help, you should help. And I know that I have always said, I try to put my money where my heart is.” She captioned the video clip, “Jeff and I are so proud to share that we have a new Bezos Courage and Civility Award winner — a woman who gives with her heart and leads with love and compassion in every aspect of her work. We can’t wait to see all the good that you’re going to do with this $100 million award, @DollyParton.”
Dolly also posted the video clip to Twitter, writing, “I try to put my money where my heart is. I will do my best to do good things with this money. Thank you @JeffBezos #LaurenSanchez.”
