Jeremy Renner attends the Marvel Studios' Los Angeles Premiere of "Hawkeye" at El Capitan Theatre on November 17, 2021 in Los Angeles, California.

Jeremy Renner was trying to stop his snow-removal tractor from sliding and hitting his nephew when he was pulled under and crushed on New Year’s Day, an incident report states. Per a redacted Washoe County Sheriff’s Office report filed Friday, the Hawkeye star was trying to pull his nephew’s truck out of the snow. The parking brake was not engaged and would have stopped the snowcat vehicle, which runs on a track, as it started sliding sideways.

“The Pistenbully snow groomer began sliding causing Renner to exit the vehicle without setting the emergency brake,” reads the conclusion of the report. “Although the Pistenbully had some mechanical issues, it is believed based on our mechanical inspection that the parking brake would keep the Pistenbully from moving forward. When Renner attempted to stop or divert the Pistenbully to avoid injury to [his nephew], he was pulled under the vehicle by the track and run over.”

The brake indicator light inside the snowcat’s cab was not functioning. “Mechanical issues may have been a factor in this accident,” the report also notes. Renner’s nephew was able to help him until help arrived and he was airlifted to the hospital, where he stayed for more than two weeks, undergoing at least two surgeries and being treated in the intensive care unit.

Renner was “completely crushed under a large snowcat [vehicle]” and had “extreme [difficulty] breathing,” with “the right side of his chest… collapsed – upper torso is crushed,” a 911 call log said. The actor says hw broke more than 30 bones in the incident.

He posted a photo on Instagram last week with a caption. It read: “Morning workouts, resolutions all changed this particular new years …. Spawned from tragedy for my entire family, and quickly focused into uniting actionable love. I want to thank EVERYONE for their messages and thoughtfulness for my family and I …. Much love and appreciation to you all. These 30 plus broken bones will mend , grow stronger, just like the love and bond with family and friends deepens . Love and blessings to you all.”

His Marvel co-star Chris Evans cheekily replied to his post, “That’s one tough mf’er. Has anyone even checked on the snowcat???

Sending so much love.”
