Ashley McBryde Writes Impromptu Song For TV Audience Member
Ashley McBryde can write a song in a pinch and did just that with an impromptu performance on The Jennifer Hudson Show this week (3/1). Jennifer told Ashley, “You are a great storyteller. Let me give you a few stories and see if you can come up with some songs with it. Can you handle that?” McBryde responds, “Yeah, no problem.”
One lady in the audience tells Ashley about getting set up on a date by a friend to find out when she met that “perfect date” that it was actually her cousin. McBryde quipped, “It’s already a country song.” Then she is handed a guitar and immediately starts to play. She sings the lyrics right off the top of her head, “Last night a friend of mine said I should go out with a guy she knows / My heart took off at the thought of falling in love with someone / Turns out the guy she knew was my cousin (laughing). ”
Last week, McBryde debuted her latest single, “Light On In The Kitchen.” The Arkansas native performed in her home state over the weekend and heads back out on the road next week before embarking on a run of additional headlining shows, festivals, two dates at the Grand Ole Opry, three dates with Eric Church on The Outsiders Revival Tour and seven shows with Jelly Roll this spring and summer.

She recently won a Grammy for her duet with Carly Pearce, “Never Wanted To Be That Girl, Ashley talked to the Grammy interviewer after her win. At the Grammys, she said, “It’s time to release new music, and I know we just released Lindeville back in September, but it’s time. There’s a new single coming at the end of February.” McBryde added, “I will be tracking Carly down. There will be some wine. I bought cupcakes yesterday just in case, and I feel like wine and cupcakes is a perfectly acceptable celebration.”
