Country News

Dolly Parton and Keith Urban are two country superstars who paid tribute to iconic rocker Tina Turner after her passing yesterday (5/24) on Instagram. Turner was 83.

Her death was confirmed in a statement to the media that said, “Tina Turner, the ‘Queen of Rock n’ Roll’ has died peacefully today at the age of 83 after a long illness in her home in Kusnacht near Zurich, Switzerland. With her, the world loses a music legend and a role model.”

Dolly wrote on her Instagram last night (5/24), “Now she’s rollin’ rollin’ rollin’ on to glory. Roll on, Tina. We will always love you, Dolly.” See that post here.

Keith Urban posted a photo of Turner on his Insta Stories. He wrote over the image, “I just heard about Tina Turner’s passing, and it hit my heart. I’m immediately hearing THAT VOICE. I’m seeing THAT ENERGY, and I’m feeling that strength, sensuality, determination, and passion. That LIFE FORCE. I’m grateful that we have the music and the performances. That source for SO much of what you hear and see in countless other artists to this day. A matchless imprint.”

He added, “Thank you for everything you gave Tina.”

Parton, also a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member, recently announced the album release date and track listing to her much-anticipated rock album, Rock Star. She began the album project after getting nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2022, saying at the time to Billboard, “This may have been just a God-wink for me to go ahead and do that.” She added, “If I’m gonna be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, I’m gonna have to do something to earn it.”

The album, which will be released on November 17, 2023, features a who’s who of rock and roll royalty, including a version of “Let It Be” featuring both surviving Beatles, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr. It also features the late Lynyrd Skynyrd guitarist Gary Rossington, who died in March, on a version of “Freebird.” She sings with Sting, Kid Rock, Joan Jett, and Elton John, just to name a few, and the project features a total of 30 songs.
