Graduating Seniors of 2023, this time in your life is full of excitement…. curiosity…. fear….. nervousness…. freedom…. accountability…. And a new level of your life being unlocked in ways you could never imagine.

This is a time of discovery. A time where you risk everything. When it feels like things are changing every week – Every month! Remember one important thing: The people around you are ALSO going through their own journey. Practicing patience will be your biggest strength.

Patience in people. Patience in yourself. Patience in what you can’t control.

A word of advice – don’t stay at that party past 12am. Nothing good happens after 12am. Don’t let another person make you doubt yourself. Don’t skip your college classes. And definitely don’t skip your vegetables.

Show up for yourself. In every way possible. Remember that you are capable of more than you think you are. Remember that LEARNING is more important than you can imagine. ALWAYS, CONSTANTLY, CONSISTENTLY, be learning. Read. Write. Pick up a new book. Start a new language. Start a puzzle. Just never let your brain be stagnant.

Make mistakes… And make mistakes…. And make more and more and more mistakes! Perfection is not the goal. Even when you think you have an end goal… there IS no end goal. You will always be striving. Always be working. Always be wanting more. There is no “perfection”. No “I completed it all”…. It has always been, and will always continue to be, about the journey. So make the mistakes. Fall and get back up. Fail and fail and fail again. Because this is the best time to do it. And then get back up over and over and over again.

I hope you change your mind a thousand times. I hope you meet a million people. I hope you smile and make a hundred peoples day. I hope you remember that at the end of the day, we are all human and our most basic daily goals should be to practice kindness and spread love.

I hope you learn to always pack extra Tylenol. Dump the guy that you’re unsure about. Tell the girl how you feel. Bring the jacket. Grab the snacks. Go on the adventures. And enjoy every exciting, surprising twist and turn of the ride.

Fayetteville Donut Shop Now Among Top 15 in the Country, in Latest Yelp Rankings

Another year, and another huge honor for Superior Bakery of Fayetteville, as it has vaulted up the list of the top 100 donut shops in the country, according to Yelp.

Friday, June 2 is National Donut Day, and Yelp released its second annual Top 100 US Donut Shops list, with Fayetteville’s Superior Bakery coming in at number 13 overall, amongst some seriously elite competitors. Last year, Superior was at number 26, so there was a big gain.

“The delicious secret behind the donuts doled out by this ‘community treasure’ dates back to the bakery’s founding in 1956,” Yelp said in its review of the shop. “Second-generation owner and baker Nicko Poulos calls it ‘the magic’—he mixes butter, lemon, orange, and vanilla flavoring, plus cinnamon, into the dough.”

Poulos said that makes all the difference in the world.

“Most bakers don’t flavor the donut itself. But it makes a huge difference,” he told Yelp. “The flavors are layered. It’s not just sugar in the glaze.”

Yelp said it took all of the businesses in its system under the donuts category, and ranked them using a number of factors, including its famous rating system, number of reviews, and more.

“There’s no better treat than a donut, served fresh and warm from a friendly local shop. And this year, the country’s top donut makers are crafting the beloved comfort food in exciting new ways,” Yelp said in its release. “From old-fashioned frosted classics to bacon-topped maple creams, and trendy Hawaiian-style donuts with ube-flavored glaze, our 2nd annual guide to the top US donut spots has it all. The common denominator? They’re all considered America’s best by the Yelp community.”

Superior Bakery, a long-time fixture at 2433 Hope Mills Road, has a 5-star rating on Yelp, with 283 reviews. Known quite well for its filled croissants, Superior Bakery has been serving “Quality Baked Good Since 1956,” and is run by Nicko Poulos. Nicko is the son of founder John S. Poulos.

The store is also famous for their community involvement. They notably donate food at the end of each day to local non-profits, like Arran Lakes Recovery Program, the USO, Alms House of Hope Mills, Operation InAsMuch and others.
