MUST WATCH: Sarah’s Adventure With Gavin, the KML 2023 VIP Student

One of the things we are most proud of here at the Big 95.7 KML is our connection with the community. And never have we been more proud than we were recently on our VIP student adventure with Gray's Creek Elementary student Gavin.

Over the summer, we partnered with our friends at Venus Vogue Weddings, Prom and Formals to select a deserving student to get to be treated like a VIP for the day. We had so many wonderful submissions, and it was such a difficult choice to pick from so many amazing stories.

But Gavin has had to overcome a lot in his short life, and once we got to spend some time with him, we knew he was the right choice as our winner.

Last week, Team KML loaded up in the Venus Vogue limo with our awesome driver, Juan de la Cruz, and we picked up Gavin and his mom Jenice, and gave him the VIP treatment with a drop-off at school.

There was something so magical about our day with Gavin and his family. Every one of us involved went into the day thinking we would help make a young boy’s day special. But as it turns out, Gavin made OUR day! We couldn’t help but feel overjoyed with gratitude.

Being able to spend quality time with a great family was the highlight of our week! Gavin was the real celebrity of the day, but he made all of us feel like stars. He wanted all of us to autograph his special guitar - myself, our limo driver Juan, and cameraman DB.

A special thanks to the staff at Gray's Creek Elementary for helping make Gavin's day extra special.

Gavin and his mom also got some extra treats thanks to some of our amazing partners.

And to end the day, Gavin's brother got to join in on the fun, as he jumped in while we went to pick Gavin up after school.

You could tell he didn’t want the day to end. It was so cool to give him a memory to last a life time. Can you imagine growing up and telling someone the story “Yeah, I got a limo ride to school in 2nd grade”??

It's certainly a memory I'll hold close to my heart. This is truly the best, most heartwarming part of what our team does.

The limo ride was a blast - and it was a first time in a limo for me too! We hope Gavin has the absolute best school year, and can't wait to celebrate his VIP year!

Summer nights are the perfect time to cruise down and catch a movie from your local North Carolina drive-in movie theater. Drive-in theaters invoke a feeling of nostalgia for summer days gone by, with popcorn and fireflies aplenty.

Once upon a time, they were plentiful and dotted the landscape in most rural American towns, however many have since closed their lots.

"There are currently only about 330 drive-in theaters that remain in operation in the United States compared to a peak of about 4,000 in the late 1950’s," the online resource DriveInMovie.com said. "There are many reasons for the decline of the number of drive-in theaters. But one thing is certain – we must support remaining drive-ins to prevent their closure to maintain this truly unique experience that is an American as homemade apple pie."

But don't despair! There are still some fully functioning drive-in theaters up and running North Carolina. Some of them are airing special Halloween features in the next month or so. And a couple even have the special Taylor Swift Eras Tour movie coming up in October.

That makes for a lot of fun opportunities as the weather cools down, and your nostalgia heats up. Enjoy these North Carolina drive-in movie theaters.
