Jelly Roll Responds To West Virginia Kid Performing ‘Save Me’ At School Talent Show

I’ve gone on record before about my admiration for Jelly Roll. Not only is he an incredibly gifted and multi-faceted artist, but his authenticity and dedication to his fans is unrivaled. This was recently demonstrated when a West Virginia middle schooler received a shout-out from the music megastar himself!

Eighth grader Gage Jude recently performed a stunning rendition of Jelly Roll’s “Save Me” at his school’s talent show. Gage’s mom Tabitha posted a snippet of the performance on her TikTok, stating how much her song loves Jelly Roll. Tabitha also posted the video in hopes that the larger-than-life singer would see it.

And see it he did! Jelly Roll commented on the original video, saying “This is incredible- wow man— hell yea! And playing the guitar at the same time- hearing the crowd sing with him is special”.

Not only did Jelly comment, but he also made sure to share the video on his Instagram story. According to Taste of Country, the story post garnered over 180,000 views and well over 100,000 likes.

Gage’s mother had kept this information from him, however, until the news of Jelly’s post was announced over his school’s intercom for the morning announcements. Gage’s fellow classmates were also encouraged to ask him for autographs to make the moment even more special. See the video of his reaction below.

You can see Gage trying to play it cool, but hearing how much love his favorite artist had for his cover clearly meant the world to him. This is definitely a moment that will stick with the kid for life.

I love how Jelly Roll’s music and life story is able to touch the hearts of so many people regardless of age, race, background or belief. To see him giving so much of his time, energy and devotion to his fans is what makes him one of the most inspirational and influential artists in the game right now.

The Complete Setlist From Jelly Roll In Wilmington, North Carolina

Jelly Roll’s Backroad Baptism tour has been selling out venues left and right, as was the case for Wilmington’s Live Oak Bank Pavilion. I can personally attest, his show there last night was spectacular. But if you couldn’t make it, don’t worry. You can still check out his full setlist here!

Jelly Roll is known the world over as a hybrid artist, adding elements of country, rock, and hip-hop to his music. Also, it’s no secret that Jelly is an open book, and that level of authentic transparency is extremely evident in his songwriting.

Once Jelly took the stage in Wilmington he was ready to throw down with fans at the Pavilion. He performed many songs from his latest album, Whitsitt Chapel, such as “She” and of course, his megahit “Need A Favor.”

Being the multi-faceted artist he is, however, Jelly had more tricks up his sleeve. At about the halfway point of the show he deviated from his own discography, paying homage to Toby Keith with a cover of “Should’ve Been A Cowboy.” Later Jelly Roll stepped away from the country sound altogether and flawlessly rapped the entire first verse and chorus to Eminem’s “Lose Yourself.”

Toward the end of the concert, he slowed things down a bit, and performed a heartfelt rendition of his debut country single, “Son of a Sinner.” And after a soulful cover of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Simple Man,” he finished strong with his newest single, “Save Me”, sans Lainey Wilson of course. I volunteered to fill her part, but he wasn’t too keen on the idea.

It was a rollercoaster of emotions at Jelly Roll’s concert. There was a fantastic mix of all kinds of music, which made for an eclectic and exciting show for his fans.
