Ashley McBryde: ‘I Was Determined To Prove Her Wrong’ After Teacher Slight
Today’s Kick Butt Tip of the Day comes from Country star Ashley McBryde.
On the surface, most people probably think that the life of a Country music star is all peaches and cream. Trust me, nothing could be further from the truth.
Ashley McBride had to hone her craft by playing her Country songs in really tough biker bars. But looking back, her hard work, the many late nights and very little if any sleep were all worth it.
As a fairly new artist, Ashley was presented with the 2019 CMT Breakout Artist award. She also won the New Artist of the Year award at the 53rd annual Country Music Association Awards and on top of that, picked up the New Female Artist award at the Academy of Country Music Awards show.
Then, to top all of the above, Ashley won a Grammy for her duet with Carly Pearce for the number one song “Never Wanted To Be That Girl.”
But prior to all of the awards, fame and fortune, Ashley recalls something that took her a long time to get over. Ashley said that a teacher is responsible for helping her to succeed. She says “I started writing music at age 12. I told my high school algebra teacher that I wanted to write songs in Nashville. She looked at me in front of a whole class and said that’s stupid. That won’t happen. And you better have a really good backup plan. I carried that for a lot of years. I was determined to prove her wrong.”
Ashley, you absolutely accomplished your goal to prove her wrong.
