Hammerin’ Hank Aaron Says Keep on Swinging
Major league baseball fans, Hank Aaron, the man who set a new home run record has two words for you, keep swinging!
Today’s Kick Butt Tip of the Day comes from the man that shattered a major league baseball record that many thought would never be broken.
In 1925, George Herman “Babe” Ruth smashed home run number 714. Many experts predicted that Babe’s record would stand forever.
Nealy 40 years later, Henry “Hank” Aaron of the Atlanta Braves not only tied the record but on the 8th of April in 1974, Hank Aaron hit home run number 715. As luck would have it, Hank hit the record breaking home run in front of a packed house at Atlanta Fulton County Stadium.
During an interview, Aaron said “my motto was always to keep swinging. Whether I was in a slump or feeling badly or having trouble off the field, the only thing to do was keep swinging. It took me seventeen years to get three thousand hits in baseball. I did it in one afternoon on the golf course.”
Hank Aaron played major league baseball for 23 years first with the Milwaukee Brewers and then the Atlanta Braves. In 1976, Aaron retired with over 20 appearances in baseball’s All Star game and with a batting average of .305.
Oh by the way, back to Babe Ruth for a moment. Not only did Babe Ruth hit his first professional homerun in Fayetteville, North Carolina, but while in the All American City, he picked up his famous nickname Babe.
Let me close by taking you back to the days of Casey Kasem and his weekly American Top 40 Countdown. Casey closed every show with these words: “Keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars.”
As Hank Aaron said, keep swinging!
Go get ’em tiger! God don’t make no junk. You, yes you are awesome! Now go be awesome!
