Cody Johnson’s Music Video May Bring You To Your Knees
Cody Johnson just released a music video for his song “Dirt Cheap” on his Leather album.
Cody posted a video clip on Instagram of him talking about the new video on the set where it was filmed.
Johnson said, “You know, this story that we’re trying to tell is very relatable to a lot of people. Not only about the type of family that has a place where their roots are and they don’t want to leave that… Or to be the man that I hope to be someday on my ranch back in Texas of ‘Hey, this is where I raised my kids, my horse is buried over there, my dog is buried over there, and I’m not leaving. I’d like to live here on the same ground.”
He continued the touching song and video, “From the point of life, not’s guaranteed to us, and eventually, we’re in that situation that we’re depicting in this video where things start to fade, and they get cracked, and they get murky, and nobody’s immune from that.”
Cody concluded, “I don’t care how fit you are, it’s gonna happen, and I think it’s a very stark reminder of ‘live today like there is no tomorrow.'”
The emotional music video stays true to the lyrics of the song, which describe an older man who will not sell his property for all the money in the world because of the life he has lived and the memories he has made on that land.

Johnson is a country singer who knows the cowboy way. He has been a rodeo-riding, true Texas cowboy since he was young, growing up in the Lone Star state.
We talked with Cody a few weeks ago before she took the stage at CMA Fest, and he told us his definition of the “Cowboy Code.”
Johnson said, “Cowboys love stories; country music has always loved stories. For me, a good way to explain what the cowboy code is: black is black, white is white, there’s no gray, no is no, and your word is all you’re based on.”
He added part of that cowboy code is being true to country music, “So, when I tell people that I stand for country music, that’s what I mean. It doesn’t matter what dollar amount they offer to change that, doesn’t matter how much fame they offer to change that. I am unapologetically who I am, and country music is what I stand for, and I think that comes from the cowboy way.”
Cody is currently touring on his headlining “Leather Tour,” which kicked off in April.
