Rev. Richard Edwards served as pastor of churches in Bladen, Robeson and Cumberland counties in North Carolina. During his ministry, he was known for his kind pastoral heart and his love of Gospel music. An important part of his preparation for ministry was his attendance of Fruitland Baptist Bible Institute. Fruitland Baptist Bible Institute left a lasting impression on Pastor Edwards and his ministry. As a pastor he sought to reach out to everyone in both their times of trials and their everyday lives, with a word of encouragement and a desire to know all whom he met. His strong voice proclaimed the wonders of Jesus Christ in both sermons and songs, using the foundations taught to him during his time at Fruitland Baptist Bible Institute.
