Walmart threw open the doors at its Pembroke Supercenter recently. The store, located at 930 Highway 711 East, had undergone a major makeover. During the ribbon-cutting, the company handed out $10,000 in grants to area nonprofits.

Store manager Heather Mason and her team threw a party. They recognized 10 workers who'd stuck around for years. Police from Pembroke showed up. So did people from Seth's Wish, McLeod Health Foundation, and Communities In Schools of Robeson County, plus others.

"At Walmart, enhancing our customers' shopping experience is always a priority," said Mason, per The Robesonian. "We're thrilled to unveil to our customers a variety of new features and improvements at our store that will ultimately allow us to better serve the Pembroke community."

The work included fresh displays and more clothing brands. QR codes popped up all over. Workers updated the pharmacy and vision center. Outside, crews redid the parking lot and planted new greenery.

A new floor plan gives shoppers room to breathe. Signs now point people where they need to go. You can order online and pick up at the store. Delivery works too. There's express delivery if you're in a rush. Walmart Pay lets you check out with your phone.

The Pembroke Police Department walked away with $4,000. Three groups split $1,000 each: Seth's Wish, McLeod Health Foundation, and Communities In Schools of Robeson County.

Two more got $750 apiece—Carolinas PGA Junior Foundation and Support Military Families. Then came the $500 grants: Robeson County Church and Community Center, Monarch Single Parent Non-Profit, and Robeson Art Guild.

Mason thanked her workers and bosses for pushing through the construction mess. The goal? Give customers choices while keeping their wallets happy and their time free.
