Campbell University will pay 100% of tuition costs for incoming first-year students who call Harnett County home. The program launches in fall 2026.
This award blankets tuition for up to four years through scholarships and grants. No loans. Housing, meals, books, fees, and personal expenses don't fall under this plan.
To qualify, students must gain admission as first-time undergraduates enrolled full-time. They need to live on campus and complete the FAFSA using code 002913.
"As Campbell University implements a new and aggressive recruitment strategy that extends our geographic reach across North Carolina, around the southeast, and indeed throughout the nation, we want to simultaneously rededicate ourselves to the local county that has nurtured our school for the last 138 years," said President Dr. William M. Downs, per Campbell University.
Dr. William M. Downs explained that the program sends a message to neighbors. The institution can become their top pick for higher education.
Vice President for Enrollment Management Dean Clark described the initiative as more than dollars and cents. "By guaranteeing tuition coverage, we are investing in the next generation of leaders who will shape our communities, our workforce, and our region for years to come," said Dean Clark.
Six public high schools operate in Harnett County, along with several private institutions. Since 2010, the county's population has jumped more than 20%.
Harnett County Schools Superintendent W. Brooks Matthews described the program as a "transformational opportunity" for students and families. Matthews earned his degree from the institution.
Current students can't apply. Neither can those taking classes online or pursuing graduate degrees. Summer courses aren't covered either.
