Today is Sunday, August 6th 220th day of the yeat – 145 left in 2023.  29 days remain until Labor Day

On August 6, 1945, during World War II, the U.S. B-29 Superfortress Enola Gay dropped an atomic bomb code-named “Little Boy” on Hiroshima, Japan. An estimated140,000 deaths resulted. (Three days later, the United States exploded another nuclear device over Nagasaki. Imperial Japan surrendered five days after that – on August 15th.)

In 1965, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Voting Rights Act.

Today on Talkback, we honor two contributions to the “Can do” spirit of our area and community – one by an area church, Lewis Chapel Missionary Baptist – and one by our relatively new County Manager, Clarence Grier. This is our first chat with Grier, whose first notoriety in our area came as a talented college basketball player at Campbell University from 1985 to 1987. You’ll hear more about his background as a CPA, his country management experience in North Carolina and Virginia and his observations and vision around his new position in our upcoming conversation.

First, however, we talk with Pastor Dr. Chris Stackhouse and Youth Ministry Coordinator Kiara Geiger of Lewis Chapel Missionary Baptist Church – with churches and on Raeford Road in Fayetteville, Hobson Rd in Raeford – The John D. Fuller RAC on Old Bunce Rd. For Special Events and EVERYWHERE on Social Media…about this Saturday’s Back to School VICTORY FEST. Listen at the end for another special announcement. Here’sour chat with Lewis Chapel Missionary Baptist’sPastor Chris Stackhouse and Youth Ministry Coordinator Kiara Geiger!   (Interview #1)
