First a few  announcements!

With temperatures below freezing overnight, last night was declared to be a “white flag” night, meaning shelter and some meals are provided at the Salvation Army and other designated shelters (Truevine Ministries J Center) for those seeking shelter from the cold.  Temperatures are likely to remain at freezing or below every night through Tuesday evening.  “White flag” sheltering will be declared by each afternoon.  Stay alert to media sources.

At 4pm, they break ground on the County’s new Homeless Support Center at 344 Hawley Rd., beside the FTCC Education Center (former Pauline Jones Elementary School.  When complete and open, the facility will be 24/7/365 resource center for the homeless in Fayetteville and Cumberland County.

Bread and Bowls, this time of year’s biggest fundraising event for Fayetteville Operation InAsMuch – so named after the quote of Jesus “Inasmuch as you did it for one of the least of these, you did it for me.” – Operation Inasmuch does a lot toward feeding and aiding the present  homeless and needy in Fayetteville.  Bread and Bowls will be this Thursday, the 22nd, 11:00 AM to 1:30pm , at Snyder Memorial Baptist Church – 701 Westmont in Fayetteville.  In addition to bread and ceramic bowls of soup, salad will also be made available for purchase as well as several other fundraising enticements and group discounts!

There’ll also be a Hamburger and Hot Dog Fundraiser Lunch served at Bethesda Nursing Home, 3532 Dunn Rd. in Eastover, on Thursday – benefitting the area Gault and Steffen families, who lost 5 year old Kevin this past year.  Thanks for your help!

In the first of this morning’s series of 4 interviews, Fayetteville 3rd District Councilperson Mario Benavente explains how he thinks there’s a better way to keep Fayetteville teens away from gun violence than a simple citywide curfew, restricting teens being out late at night.
