Location: Christina Smith Park/J.S. Spivey Recreation Center, Old Wilmington Road, Fayetteville, NC
Mission: For the Love of Grandparents, Inc. is a non-profit organization focused on the health and well-being of elderly residents residing in nursing/convalescent homes that may or may not have family members living in the area. The Celebration of Grandparents also acts as an information source for elderly residents who may be experiencing unfair treatment in legal matters.
Purpose: This annual program is held to honor senior citizens in our community, especially grandparents. Residents from area nursing/convalescent homes are invited to enjoy a free day of entertainment in an old-timey, down-home picnic setting. Visitors are encouraged to bring their grandparents or interact with elderly residents who may not have family in the area. Participants can also Adopt-A-Grandparent.
Trophies, acknowledgments and prizes will be awarded to the Oldest Grandparent, the Longest Living NC Resident, the Grandparent with the Most Grandchildren, Karaoke Contest Winners, etc.
Part of the funding received through the For the Love of Grandparents, Inc., non-profit organization are used by Jan Pettey & Friends to provide free concerts at more than 107 nursing/convalescent homes throughout the year.
