The North Carolina State Fair is going on now in Raleigh, and our digital sales manager Mike Swencki did the hard work of trying out many of the fair foods for you, so you’ll know which were the very best of the bunch.

The N.C. State Fair continues through Sunday, October 24, so you still have time to get up there to try your favorites.

Let’s take a look at Mike’s favorites (and one not so favorite).

  • Hot Chix Twisted Chicken and Tots

Tater tots topped with fried chicken, queso, and we chose sweet red chili sauce.  One of the tastiest things we had at the fair, I definitely recommend checking them out.

  • Hot Chix Cookies and Cream Mini Pancakes

Sweet little pancakes with topped with chocolate sauce, marshmallow sauce, and cookie crumbles.  Super portable and really tasty.

  • Ezzell's Somethin' Good: Shrimp and Grits on a Stick

The line was huge but it was worth the wait.  Grits with shrimp fried up like hushpuppies, covered with mini popcorn style shrimp, cream sauce and bacon.  Unique for sure since it was on a stick but a classic flavor combo we really enjoyed.

  • Waffle Chix Brownie Waffle

Waffle that has a brownie core, drizzled with chocolate sauce and powdered sugar.  Sweet belgian waffles make great desserts and the brownie made it that much better. 10/10

  • Chicken Quesadilla

Can’t remember the vendors name but it was a good quesadilla.  Not super unique like most fair food but it was good quality.

  • Poutine Gourmet

A Canadian favorite, we got the classic poutine which is French fries covered in gravy and cheese curds.  We made this our first stop of the day because we knew we couldn’t go wrong with classic poutine.  It was excellent and primed us well for a day of eating.

  • One Item NOT to Try: Steak Sandwich

A sad little steak sandwich. Not worth the $18. Wasn’t even worth taking a photo of it. Just try the other junk food, it’s much more worth your money.
