Duane ‘Dog’ Chapman Diagnosed with Pulmonary Embolism
Duane “Dog” Chapman has revealed he’s been diagnosed with a pulmonary embolism just weeks after being hospitalized for heart-related issues.
Chapman revealed the diagnosis to Dr. Mehmet Oz on an episode ofĀ The Dr. Oz ShowĀ that will air on Monday (September 28.) In the clip below, Dr. Oz tells Chapman, “Youāre a ticking time bomb.Ā Youāre not going to be here with the heart the way it is right now. Fear of death is normal. Iām surprised you donāt fear death when youāre chasing after convicts. But when you run away from doctor, that means you have to do your own doctoring.”
Dr. Oz toldĀ PeopleĀ that Chapman had been resistant to receiving and following doctor’s orders, and a lot of that stems from the loss of his wife, Beth, in June of complications from throat cancer.
“Beth had been his north star,” said Dr. Oz. “She was the one that would go with him and keep him balanced so he could deal with these things. Losing her took away his biggest support…I said, āWhat would Beth do? What would she say to you? I donāt think sheād be happy with what youāre doing. Youāre throwing away your life, youāre throwing away your ability to parent your kids. You have to man up.ā Thatās what she would say.”
Fortunately, Chapman is finally adjusting his diet, is takingĀ blood thinners and is in the process of trying to quit smoking. He toldĀ People, “I hesitated for a minute thinking, I donāt want to have to go through this again. I donāt want to die right now. Iām not afraid to die anymore, but I really didnāt care for awhile if something would happen. I do care now.”
