Cody Johnson Is Not Encouraging His Girls To Be Singers
Cody Johnson‘s two daughters Clara Mae and Cori, who are nine and seven, have thought a little bit about becoming country singers. We talked to Cody recently, and he’s discouraging his daughters from getting into the country music scene.
He told us. “I told them don’t do it, and you think it’s easy because we ride around in private jets and buses and stuff with Dad, and we have these expensive trips and all this stuff. It looks good on paper, but I tell them, ‘You guys weren’t around for the real hard work like looking into a McDonald’s and not being able to go in and buy food and literally starving for country music.'”
He says to his girls, “What else do you wanna be?” and they say, ‘I wanna be a vet and I also wanna be a teacher and I wanna be a pastor but then after that, I’m thinking maybe I could be a lawyer.'”
The budding country superstar admits, “Cody Johnson is like the lowest man on the totem pole right now. At my house, it kind of goes Carrie Underwood, Lainey Wilson, and Megan Maroney. I love Carrie. I love Lainey and I recently met Megan and she’s one of the nicest girls I ever met, but I’m so sick of their music. It’s not even funny, because they blare it constantly at our house.”
Johnson will release the Deluxe version of his Leather album, which includes the new Carrie Underwood duet, “I’m Gonna Love You,” on November 1.
There comes a time in every country artist’s career when they release that special song, the song they will be known for, and they wait to perform till the end of their nightly shows.
For Johnson, that song is “The Painter.” The song is already a year old, and Cody marked the occasion on his Instagram recently.
He posted a video clip of him performing the song and the crowd singing back every word as loud as can be. He wrote over the video, “It’s been a year since The Painter was released… It’s crazy to hear you sing it this loud.” Cody captioned the post, “This Painter came out one year ago yesterday. Thank you #COJONation for loving it and making it such a special moment every time we play it for y’all!”
