Liz Allison, the widow of former race car driver Davey Allison, took to Twitter to express her shock over Gentry's death. She also said she can relate to the phone call Troy's wife received regarding his passing.
Davey Allison also died as a result of a helicopter crash. In 1993, Allison was flying a helicopter to Talladega Superspeedway when he crashed near the track.
According to the New York Times, he was rushed to the hospital where he underwent surgery -- but he never regained consciousness.
In another tweet, Liz admitted that when she heard Gentry died in a helicopter crash, it took her back in time.
Fans of Gentry are welcome to pay their respects at the Grand Ole Opry this Thursday at 11 a.m.
Rest in Peace, Troy. Your life and your music were something to be proud of.
