Thomas Rhett Is A Chip Off The Ol’ Block
Thomas Rhett is up for three CMA Awards this week: Male Vocalist of the Year and Vocal Event and Video of the Year for “Craving You,” his duet with Maren Morris. There are many reasons for his success, but he says a big one is that it runs in the family.
Thomas is a second generation entertainer, of course, given dad Rhett Akins‘ success in the 1990s. He’s since become one of Nashville’s most sought-after songwriters. “When I think about who taught me to sing in the first place, it was my dad,” Thomas says through his record label. “And still to this day I think my dad is one of the best songwriters [and] best performers that I’ve ever gotten to witness. So being able to just kind of watch him write songs [from when I was] eight years old, and go on the road with him at nine years old, and get to go sing in his encores on the road, I feel like Dad has been the main influence on me vocally, and as a songwriter and performer. So I owe dad a lot of credit for being here today.”
