Brett Young: Shooting Bedroom Scenes With Models Is Awkward
Making music videos can be weird. That’s according to Brett Young, at least. The rising star is getting better at navigating the weirdness, though, as revealed recently in a new interview.
Take Brett’s music video for “Sleep Without You” for example. At one point it featured Brett laying in bed kissing a beautiful woman in lingerie – former Miss USA Olivia Jordan, by the way. “I still haven’t asked my parents how they felt about that video,” Brett quips in an interview released by his record label. “I think we’re all happy not having the conversation.”
As for the steamy bedroom scene, some parts were weird and some weren’t. “For the most part, it wasn’t really awkward. What was awkward was having 12 people and a full camera crew and a smoke machine, and [directors] standing over you and telling you you’re doing it wrong. That’s the whole point – you don’t know what you’re doing. [So] it wasn’t super awkward for me just because it felt like work. It was a unique experience for me.”

Fans can pick up on some of that awkwardness in a behind-the-scenes video taped by his record label during the “Sleep Without You” shoot. “With new artists, you never know sort of what their temperament is gonna be and how they’re gonna [get] used to the whole process of making videos,” director Shane Drake says at one point, noting that Brett took it all in stride. “He seemed like an artist that’s very seasoned and knew exactly what he was doing and what he wanted.”
