Brett Young: Why He Wasn’t Sold On His Chart Topper ‘Here Tonight’
Brett Young’s “Here Tonight” is currently sitting on top of the Billboard Country Chart for the second consecutive week, but he didn’t know if the song fit him when he first heard it.
“I wasn’t sure this one was ‘mine.’ And then Charles [Kelley of Lady Antebellum] sang the demo vocal on it and listening back to him sing it, I was A) really intimidated to try to sing it now because Charles is such a great singer but B) listening to it, it really did feel like me and I thought I did want it for my record. And so, it was the beginning of a really fun thing with Charles. We’ve written together since. It was our first one, and it made the record, and ended up being the first single, so it was pretty fun.”
As for the song’s success, Young couldn’t be happier. He says, “We wanted to write a song about living in the moment and trying to enjoy what is happening, while it’s happening. That’s very much what I’m trying to do right now. I don’t think it’s fully sunk in yet that this is my fifth number one, it’s an incredible feeling and I’m beyond grateful.”
Brett is currently touring on Kelsea Ballerini’s “Miss Me More Tour.”
