Lady Antebellum’s ‘Ocean’ Album Rose From A ‘Dark Time’
Lady Antebellum’s Ocean album is out today. As Charles Kelley tells us, the project came from a tough time for the band. He said, “We kind of got a lot closer and the really dark time that we had and it brought us into this realization and appreciation of where we are and what we get to do and kind of reenergized us moving forward. I think it [the album] just naturally came out.”
One song on the album “Why I’m Leaving” hits close to home for the trio who all have children and who spend so much time on the road. Hillary Scott told us, “We write the majority of our songs, but this record as a whole and the outside songs that we got to interpret are just some of my favorites. ‘Why I’m Leaving’ I listened to it and I’m like, ‘This is my life: I was that child, because my parents toured with Reba for the majority of my childhood.'”
She added, “And so I was that little girl. And now I’m that mom and that parent. I felt such a true, very present representation of where I am, where we are as a band, and with our families. It’s a very relatable song and anyone that leaves, you don’t necessarily have to have a traveling job, but you do feel that pull as a parent. I mean, I think about when I hear this song, I think about how military families could really relate to this song.”
They posted to Instagram this morning (11/15), “Ocean’ is out now! Life has its way of taking us through the ebbs and flows – the waves of the good and the hard times. Our hope is that you can find your own stories throughout this album and that our connection to each other can become stronger because of it.”
