Has there ever been a restaurant from your childhood that you miss dearly? I remember so many that have come and gone here in Fayetteville. I was born in Summer of 1988 and you could consider our town a small town in some ways. Growing up you had chains but also the local places are the standouts like McDonalds or Burger King but when you are a kid with no source of income alot of our good eating came from the buffet style.

The Pizza Hut Buffet is legendary. Unlimited pizza and salad all during lunch time kept us all happy. One Summer we had a Pokemon Card competition at Toys-R-Us but before we got there we stopped to Pizza Hut for the buffet. My grandmother was the one to always take us to these places while my mom worked and it would be my best friends Mark & Steven along with my brother and sister. My grandmother didn’t need to cook for all these mouths and cmon now pizza is legendary! I was a simple guy. For the longest time I was cool with just cheese pizza. So as much as I could I would chow down on that while everyone else ate pepperoni like all the rest of the normies would. I would sometimes switch it up and go meat lovers and remove all the pepperoni. I liked pepperoni but just not with my pizza. And to keep my grandmother happy we of course had to have at least one salad.

The other Pizza Buffet of note was always Cici’s Pizza. Now not as popular where CiCi’s took it to the next level was the pasta and desserts like Cinnamon rolls. At Cici’s the pizza was a lot smaller in size so it was easier to have competitions with each other. The record currently held by my friend Mark was 13 slices of pizza. He got really sick but he is still the champion nonetheless. Here are the other fun places I miss in Fayetteville.

  • Shoney's

Now the burgers and milkshakes were always top-tier. But the best breakfast we always looked forward too was at Shoney’s. The pancakes were everything.

  • Ryan's

Now our love for buffets was undisputed. For some reason though I can always remember the Macaroni and Cheese the most from Ryan’s. This was the go to for After Church and we even had a few wedding receptions here.

  • Backyard Burgers

They had the burgers and the hotdogs. We used to walk to Backyard Burgers when we lived on Bunce. In hindsight, probably not the safest but hey we are here still. Now the thing I looked forward to most was the fries. I miss them.
