Chris Stapleton Brings Players To Tears With Super Bowl National Anthem

Chris Stapleton did not disappoint with his version of the National Anthem before Super Bowl LVII at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, near Phoenix. Wearing all black and  sunglasses, without his trademark hat, Chris played a soulful guitar as he sang. During his performance, the camera shot went to many of both teams' players, some of whom were brought to tears. Philadelphia Eagles' head coach Nick Sirianni was visibly crying while Stapleton sang.  Oscar-winning actor Troy Kotsur signed the performance for the camera for the hearing impaired.

This is Chris' first time performing the National Anthem at a Super Bowl, but not a first for country music as just last year (2022), Mickey Guyton sang the National Anthem. In years past, Luke Byan sang it. Eric Church played guitar and sang the National Anthem along with Jazmine Sullivan in 2021. Carrie Underwood also sang the National Anthem at the Super Bowl in 2010.

During his performance, to celebrate the anniversary of the first female naval aviators enlisted in the U.S. Navy, the NFL invited all female naval aviators to fly over the field at State Farm Stadium. It is the first time in history that all females did the Super Bowl military fly-by. Before the Super Bowl, the NFL said in a statement about the military flyover, "To commemorate 50 years of women flying in the U.S. Navy, the service will conduct a flyover of State Farm Stadium during the national anthem with female aviators as part of the formation."

Earlier this month (2/2), Chris announced the dates for his "American Road Show" 2023 tour with several opening acts, including The War and Treaty, Marty Stuart, Margo Price, Marcus King, and more.
