Chris Young Cites Female Superstar With Inspiring Him
Chris Young is honoring women during Women’s History Month by discussing a country superstar who inspired him to pursue his dream of country music stardom.
Chris told us, “A female artist that has definitely influenced me from the perspective of the stage show, vocalist, performance, and just how much she has accomplished in her career that I look up to is Reba McEntire. If you make a Mount Rushmore of country music, I have a whole lot of reasons why she should be on there.”
He added, “And she’s just a fantastic person and a fantastic artist. Another woman in the music industry that has really had a profound impact on me, especially from a songwriting perspective, is Liz Rose (frequent Taylor Swift collaborator). I got a chance to meet her really early on in my career, and obviously, she’s had so many hits, so many hits. But just being in a room with her, being able to learn from her, I feel incredibly lucky to have that opportunity, and to have someone that’s that adept at songwriting help me learn and help guide me as a songwriter and an artist.”

Chris recently told us that he knew when he wrote “All Dogs Go To Heaven” that fans would tell him stories about pets they lost. He says he is ready for it. He said, “I would say I am properly equipped to handle that onslaught of people relating to that song mainly because of the song ‘Drowning’ that I wrote. Because I had so many people just tell me stories about people they lost, and I wrote that about a friend of mine that I lost.”
Young hopes not to cry on performances when he sings it live. He said, “Am I going to absolutely fail on the Opry trying to play ‘All Dogs Go To Heaven?’ I hope not, dear God. I don’t need to do that again. I am not a crier, but when it comes to animals, it’s just a different thing. It’s losing one of your friends or losing a pet you had for a long time; obviously, the former is much tougher, but it’s not like the second option is not anything anybody wants. So, yeah, that’s gonna be really tough.”
