Beasley, Cumberland County School Partnering on Mental Health Summit for Teens

Beasley Media Group – Fayetteville is teaming up with the Cumberland County School System to launch a mental health awareness campaign, and first we’re zeroing in on local students. Meet the “Alongside” app, your new AI-powered buddy designed to spot and tackle students’ emotional and psychological challenges. Think of it as a superhero team-up between tech and expert clinicians, all for the well-being of our youth. I wish this had been an option for me, having battled with suicide attempts since 5th grade.

Alongside: A Mental Health Support App / Home

With Alongside, students in grades 6-12 get access to Kiwi the Llama, an AI Chatbot developed by doctoral clinicians, providing 24/7 mental health support. Parental permission is required.

We’re kicking off this initiative with the “Mental Health Minute” event, aiming to bust mental health stigmas and have some real talk about the issues affecting our community. Tune in live on Facebook Live via Foxy 99.1 and 107.7 The Bounce’s social media channels. Expect some serious insights from mental health and education pros: Dr. Natasha Scott, head of Student Services for Cumberland County Schools; Dr. Melody Chalmers McClain, Associate Superintendent of Student Support Services; and Mrs. Shannon Battle, Clinical Director for Family Services of America. Keeping things lively, we’ve got Omega Jones and me “Babydoll” from BBGI on the mic.

This whole event shows Beasley Media Group – Fayetteville’s dedication to the mental, emotional, and psychological health of our young stars. By being proactive and engaging with the community, we’re aiming to make a lasting impact. Mark your calendars for May 16, 2023, at Beasley Media Group – Studio B, 1876 Bureau Drive, Fayetteville, NC, from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm. It’s going to be a key moment in promoting healthy, open chats about the mental health challenges we face.

The discussion will be moderated by Omega Jones and Victoria “Babydoll” Johnson, familiar faces in community broadcasting from BBGI.

Victoria “Babydoll” Johnson is bringing you inside The Dollhouse, middays from 10a to 3p on Foxy 99. She was born and raised in Eastern North Carolina, and grew up listening to legendary heritage Hip Hop Foxy 99 personalities, all while secretly dreaming of one day becoming one of them. Babydoll is known to be an “around the way girl” amongst Foxy listeners, connecting with them and writing about music, pop culture, and holistic wellness. She is a graduate of Carolina School of Broadcasting, in Charlotte North Carolina. Babydoll colloquially delivers compelling content and information. She connects with listeners not only over the airwaves, but also through social media platforms; as well as in their communities where it counts most.

Flo Rida, Maddie & Tae Headlining Fort Liberty Fourth at the Fort Celebration

Fourth at the Fort – which won’t be on July 4 this year – has a lineup for 2024, as Fort Liberty announced the artists performing at the annual celebration.

First, it’s worth pointing out that this year’s event will not be on July 4, which falls on a Thursday. Instead, Fort Liberty officials moved the celebration to Saturday, June 29.

“Happening Saturday, June 29th at the Main Post Parade Field. Yes, June 29th! This year will be our BIGGEST event yet!” Fort Liberty Family and MWR said in its Facebook post announcing the Fourth at the Fort. “We will have not one, not two, but THREE artists plus the 82nd Rock Band to celebrate with us! The three artists are from three different genres – there will be music for everyone to enjoy.”

Hip hop artist Flo Rida, country duo Maddie & Tae, and rock-pop ground Plain White T’s will be the musical acts performing this year.

Last year’s event drew over 60,000 people to the Main Post Parade Field, with Sheryl Crow and Gavin DeGraw performing.

Fourth at the Fort Not On July 4

Fort Liberty isn’t alone in moving its main celebration off of the weeknight, as the Town of Hope Mills has also moved its day-long celebration to Saturday, June 29, as well. The City of Fayetteville is holding its symphony event in Festival Park on July 4. The Fayetteville Woodpeckers will be out of town on July 4, but Segra Stadium will play host to the US Collegiate National Team for a game that night, as well as fireworks.

But let’s take a look at the three artists scheduled to perform at Fourth at the Fort at Fort Liberty on Saturday, June 29.
