Ford Issues Do-Not-Drive Advisory For Some Of Their Most Popular Models
If you’re a Ford car or truck owner, you may want to make sure your repairs are up to date. The company has recently released a do-not-drive advisory for certain models, which affects over 760,000 of their cars and trucks.
The Reason Behind The Advisory
The advisory stems from three previous safety recalls concerning the airbag inflation system in older Ford models. A news release from Ford details how the vehicles in question were equipped with Takata non-desiccated airbag inflators.
The main motivation behind this do-not-drive advisory is the concern that owners of older Ford cars and trucks have yet to comply with the previous three safety recall repairs. This leaves those drivers at risk of their airbag shooting out sharp metal fragments in the event of a crash, which could cause severe injury or even death.
Which Ford Models Are Under Advisory?
According to Ford, the do-not-drive advisory applies to owners and drivers of the following cars and trucks due to possibly faulty driver and/or passenger airbag inflators:
- 2004-2006 Ford Ranger trucks
- 2005-2014 Ford Mustang vehicles
- 2005-2006 Ford GT vehicles
- 2006-2012 Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan, Lincoln MKZ / Zephyr vehicles
- 2007-2010 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX vehicles
- 2007-2011 Ford Ranger trucks
You can also check whether your Ford vehicle is involved in the advisory or any of the safety recalls on Ford’s website by entering your VIN.
How To Get Your Ford Repairs Up To Date
Luckily, Ford has ensured its customers that the necessary parts to fix the airbag inflators are available. Customers are encouraged to use mobile services or have their vehicle towed directly to a Ford dealership for repair. The dealer should also offer a loaner vehicle if yours needs to stay in the shop for an extended period of time.
Fayetteville Ford customers can bring their vehicle to Liberty Ford of Fayetteville on Swain Street, or LaFayette Ford on Raeford Road for repairs and loaner cars if necessary.
