Concert Review: Kacey Musgraves Dazzles at Koka Booth
By now, you almost certainly know who Kacey Musgraves is. She of the 2019 Album of the Year at the Grammy’s and the ACMs, as well as a host of other awards. The songstress has been making her mark on the music industry for several years now, but has never been hotter than she is right now.
Musgraves brought her massively successful “Oh, What a World” tour to Cary’s Koka Booth Amphitheater Saturday night, and the sold out crowd was treated to 19 songs.
Musgraves opened the show with “Slow Burn”, her ode to taking our time and relaxing through love. It was a perfect opener to highlight the exact kind of show she was bout to present between the Koka Booth pines. Country radio fans would have to wait until song three to hear something they’d be a little more familiar with, as her brightly lit rainbow stage filled up with butterflies for…”Butterflies” of course.
Musgraves didn’t stray much from what we’d expect right now, performing the entirety of her nearly flawless “Golden Hour” album, and mixing in a couple of her early hits like “Merry Go Round” and “Follow Your Arrow”. One of the highlights of the show, shown in the video above, was her stirring rendition of her Grammy-winning Country Song of the Year, “Space Cowboy”.
What stands out most about her live show is just how thrilled in this moment she seems to be. While it’s sometimes hard to find Kacey on traditional radio, she’s certainly found success with the critics and awards groups. That she’s also been able to resonate so well with quite a diverse fan group is quite impressive. And she’s loving every moment of that.
Her tour continues Monday and Tuesday night in Asheville if you’re so inclined to make the drive. It’s sure to be a memorable show.
