Reality singing competitions have put out many great artists, but did you know that a number of today’s biggest country stars were actually rejected by shows like The Voice and American Idol?

That’s right, the biggest and best singers in Nashville weren’t always on the highest peak of their career.

Have you ever dreamed what it would it be like to stand on a stage and hear the roar of thousands of fans who turned out to see and hear you perform? The word indescribable comes to my mind.

But it isn’t always sunshine and roses, as stars like Luke Combs, Kane Brown, Hillary Scott and many more got rejected… sometimes by multiple shows!

“I was on spring break a few years ago when The Voice was having auditions in Atlanta, Georgia,” Combs told Whiskey Riff in an interview a few months back. “In my audition round, I was the only guy and you get about thirty seconds to sing. I made it to the next round that was at a studio, and then made it to the next cut.”

Check this list of Country stars who didn’t let their dreams die even after being rejected by “The Voice,” “America’s Got Talent,” “American Idol” and/or “The X Factor.”

  • 1-Luke Combs

Imagine being told “you’re not interesting enough for “The Voice?” Luke Combs was told just that. Look who got the last laugh.

  • 2-Kane Brown

Kane was turned down by both “The X Factor” and “Idol.” Now with millions of fans and records sold, it was all worth it.

  • 3-Hillary Scott from Lady A

“Idol” turned Hillary down twice. Shortly after the second rejection, she met Dave Haywood and Charles Kelley and as they say, the rest is history.

  • 4-Jimmie Allen

Even though Jimmie got turned down by “Idol,” he did not let this temporary setback hold him back. He released his debut project in 2017 paving the way for a his Country music career.

  • 5-Maren Morris

Not many singers can say they got the thumbs-down on “Idol”, America’s Got Talent and “The Voice,” but Maren Morris can. Looking back, Maren says “it was a blessing in disguise.”

  • 6-Chris Lane

Did you know that Chris Lane has a twin brother? His name is Cory and in 2008, they both gave “Idol” a shot with their rap duo. Simon Cowell referred to them as “amateurish.”

  • 7-Colton Swon of The Swon Brothers

In 2008. Colton auditioned. He made it all the way to the Top 48 before being cut. Colton and his brother Zach then auditioned for Season 4 of “The Voice.” As members of Team Blake, the duo finished third.

  • 8-Mickey Guyton

Mickey auditioned during season 7 of “Idol” barely missing the Top 24.

  • 9-Laine Hardy

You may remember that Laine auditioned for season 16 of “Idol” but was cut. Laine returned the next year for season 17 and won. Wow!
