Happy National Spouses Day everybody!
Let me tell you my friend, it was rough growing up. In fact, can you believe that we only had three tv channels on our small black and white television? Channel 6 WECT out of Wilmington, N.C., WBTW channel 13 from Florence, S.C. and sometimes WRAL channel 5 in Raleigh, N.C. Now, I am not complaining. This was the early 1970’s after all and if memory serves me correct, everyone I knew only had three channels.
Sitting down to watch tv was a nightly ritual. So, the moment I found out that today was National Spouses Day, I thought of two things. My spouse Debbie, who I consider to be the greatest spouse of all time and in a funny way, I thought of Lucille Ball. I probably thought of Lucy after seeing a movie trailer for “Being the Ricardos.” If you’re a fan, see this film. My wife Debbie is the biggest Lucy fan on the planet.
There have been so many notable spouses in television history, and for the purposes of this piece, I’m focusing on my favorite of the wives. But we’re proud of you too, husbands. National Spouses Day is a good day to honor everyone.
