-The Friends of Cumberland County Shelter Animals non-profit and volunteer organization will hold its annual Baby Shower event on Saturday, April 13, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Animal Shelter, located at 4704 Corporation Drive. This event helps raise supplies for the upcoming spring puppy and kitten season.
-“A female cat can produce up to 12 kittens per year, and if none of those kittens get spayed, there could potentially be 420,000 kittens in seven years,” said Elaine Smith, Cumberland County Animal Control Director. “That’s why it’s so important to spay or neuter your cats. The shelter takes in about 5,000 cats per year with the majority being kittens in the spring.”
-The supply drive wish list includes kitten formula, canned kitten and puppy food, blankets, toys, heated beds, cat litter and litter boxes.
-If you can’t attend the event, donations are always welcome during Animal Control’s regular hours Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 1 to 5 p.m.

-Spring Plant Sale: April 13, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Cumberland County Agriculture Center, 301 E. Mountain Drive. The plant sale features locally grown plants with an emphasis on plants native to the area. Proceeds benefit scholarships and local programs. 910-321-6882.

-The Cumberland County Public Health Department will host a “Fun in the Sun with Public Health” event Saturday, April 13 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Public Health Center parking lot located at 1235 Ramsey Street.
-The event will bring together Health Department clinics, County departments and community organizations to share information about health, safety and wellness with community members.
-This free, family-friendly event will feature booths, displays and giveaways. Balloon animals, face painting, popcorn and snow cones will also be available for free while supplies last. Cape Fear Valley Blood Donor Center will also host a blood drive at the event.

-Spring Litter Sweep: The N.C.
-Department of Transportation is looking for volunteers to help clean up trash along roads during the Adopt-A-Highway Spring Litter Sweep from April 13-27. Each April and September, the DOT calls on volunteers from across the state to help remove litter from roadsides.
-These may be from businesses, schools, nonprofits, churches or community groups, as well as individuals. Volunteers are provided with supplies such as trash bags, gloves and safety vests. -Spring Fling (College Lakes Recreation Center, 433-1564)
Join us for our annual Easter Egg Hunt. There will be eggs filled with goodies, bounce houses, the Easter bunny and more. There will be different times for different age groups. This event will take place at the College Lakes Park. Please have children bring their own baskets.
