GALLERY: Walker Hayes Brings the Heat To North Carolina Stage!
The city of Raleigh was feeling all “fancy like” last Friday when Walker Hayes rocked the Red Hat Amphitheater! Despite the sweltering near 100-degree heat, it was an absolutely incredible night of live country music, with many big moments that had the thousands in attendance on their feet throughout the show.
The concert opened with a star-making performance from up-and-coming artist Breland, who made it abundantly clear why Walker wanted him on his show. His energy was infectious as he performed some of his biggest hits like My Truck and For What It’s Worth. Soon after he was finished, rising star Ingrid Andress took the stage and delivered an emotionally diverse set that showed a ton of vulnerability to the grateful Raleigh crowd. Ingrid performed her big hit single from last year, Wishful Drinking (sans Sam Hunt), and even brought Breland back on stage for their lively collab, Here For It.
After a brief intermission, it was time for the main event. Walker Hayes emerged on stage to thunderous applause as he began his set. The Alabama native certainly knew how to keep the raucous Raleigh crowd out of their seats, spreading his more well-known hits throughout the setlist so he could showcase some of his deeper cuts. The moment that stood out to me in particular was the emotionally devastating If Father Time Had a Daughter, made even more powerful when Walker brought his own daughter Loxley on stage to duet the song with him.
But of course, no Walker Hayes show is complete without his most famous song to date. He made the audience wait all night, and their patience was rewarded with an electric live performance of Fancy Like. The folks in attendance (myself included) were more than happy to provide back up vocals for that one.
It was an unforgettable night at Red Hat, with all three performers bringing the good kind of heat to an already sizzling North Carolina summer concert season. If the live crowd reaction was anything to go by, I think it’s safe to say Walker Hayes is welcome back to Raleigh anytime he wants.
