The Salvation Army Is Prepared To Serve Before, During And After The Storm
Fayetteville, North Carolina (September 19, 2018)—Even though Hurricane Florence has come and gone, the impact on our community can be seen with the rising waters and flooding of our communities. The Salvation Army of Fayetteville declared White Flag on Wednesday, September 12 and are still in the process of sheltering our homeless population. Thank you to Manna Church for taking The Haven residents, when we made the precautionary decision to relocate due to the Cape Fear River rising and flooding concerns. Our White Flag guests were moved to another location for their safety. We have not sustained any flooding issues and we are grateful to the City of Fayetteville for their hard work to ensure that we had no drainage issues on Alexander Street.
The Salvation Army shelter has remained a beacon of hope for our homeless population during the hurricane by providing hot meals and spiritual comfort. Our staff and volunteers have worked long hours to provide shelter, love, hope and prayer to anyone that needed us. We will continue our Community Feeding Lunch (12 to 1 pm) and Dinner (5 to 6 pm) at 245 Alexander Street, where we will provide hot meals for our neighbors in need. Water is our biggest need and bags of ice, please consider helping our shelter and canteen. “We are grateful for God’s mercy for helping us make it safely through the storm,” said Major Tim Grider, Corps Officer. “Now that the storm has passed, it is time to work on recovery efforts. Parts of our service area (Cumberland, Robeson, Hoke, Scotland and Moore Counties) are flooded and have barely recovered from Hurricane Matthew impact. It is time for the community to come together to help those in greatest need.”
