Rising Country Star Kelsey Hart Visits KML In Fayetteville to Share ‘Life With You’
One of the best parts about working in country radio is meeting the talented new artists who are eager to leave their mark on the industry. This was the case when up-and-coming singer-songwriter Kelsey Hart recently visited the Big 95.7 KML studio in Fayetteville!
Sarah and I were able to sit with Kelsey and talk about a wide array of topics. He started by talking about his Kentucky upbringing which, surprisingly, did not include very much exposure to country music. As Kelsey explains, he was raised on a different genre altogether.
“My parents weren’t, like, huge country fans…starting out it was gospel music that my dad always played,” Kelsey said, “so I’ve always been a fan of big singers, people with big vocals.” But in his high school years, Kelsey did gravitate toward one country artist in particular who awakened his love of the genre.
“It was Blake Shelton. I thought he was always the coolest guy, had the big vocals, cut the cool songs…he was the guy I always looked up to.”
Soon after high school graduation, Kelsey enrolled in barber school. It was around this time period that he also picked up the guitar and started writing music, often traveling between Kentucky and Nashville to chase his dream while working at a local barber shop.
When asked his thoughts on who has the best hair in country music, he shared his admiration for the flowy locks of Dan Smyers of Dan + Shay. “I’ve never seen hair like that. That dude’s got a mane.”
Overtime, Kelsey’s music career began to take shape, as he found himself spending more and more time grinding away in Nashville. Things really took off for the talented artist upon the release of his first big single, “Life With You.”
Here’s the version Kelsey performed for us in the Webb Carpet Company KML Studio.
According to Kelsey, the very song that helped him break into the country scene almost never came to see the light of day. “Life With You is a song I wrote a few years ago, before my wife and I were engaged. Once we did get engaged we were looking for a first dance song, she brought it up to me.” Kelsey admitted initial hesitance with using the song, as it was, “an out of sight, out of mind thing” for him. “I didn’t have plans on putting the song out at that time.”

But eventually, they agreed to use the song for their first dance as newlyweds. The video of their dance was put online, with the song catching special attention on social media. “It started hitting online on TikTok and on Instagram…so it was around that time that we decided to (officially) cut the song…it’s been pretty crazy.”
Being a touching love ballad dedicated to his wife Auminee, “Life With You” was actually a change of pace from Kelsey’s earlier material. He revealed to us that he was usually more inclined to writing breakup songs. He even joked about this causing some undue tension between he and Auminee when they first started dating. “My wife, when we were dating, she was like, ‘are you ok? You really seem like you’re upset here!'”
But after awhile Kelsey became more comfortable branching out into different subjects, with more of the uplifting and heartfelt love songs being influenced by his marriage. “She’s definitely influenced me. There’s a lot more of the love stuff being written these days. I’m more there now.” I then suggested that “The Love Stuff” should be the name of his next album, so I’m expecting a cut of the royalties if he follows through in the future.
Marriage has not only influenced Kelsey’s artistry, but it’s also reshaped how he approaches life in general. When asked about some of the lessons he’s learned as a married man, he felt he has become a better listener. “I’ve recently figured out to, instead of trying to be the fixer, she’s told me, ‘I just need you to listen. I don’t need you to make things better.'” All the women in the studio were nodding their heads so hard at this answer that I worried they were gonna hurt themselves.
We had an absolute blast talking with Kelsey Hart about music, life, love, and hair. He is a friendly, down-to-earth artist whose star continues to rise in the country-sphere. In fact, he was even able to meet his idol Blake Shelton at the 2024 Country Radio Seminar in Nashville.
The sky’s the limit for Kelsey Hart! And as an added treat, here’s an acoustic performance of another new song, “4×4” that you absolutely will love.
