Fayetteville: Explore Your Own City
As a resident, you don’t normally tourist activities in your city. Sometimes you miss the attractions that your city has to offer. Sure, once in a while, friends or family come to visit and you hit some hot spots, but more often people don’t visit great spots in their cities.
Fayetteville is a city that has much to offer and to do for those of you wanting to take a “staycation” and spend a little time exploring your home city.
We found some fun things to do here in Fayetteville.
Cape Fear Botanical Garden
This beautiful Botanical Garden was founded in 1989, Cape Fear Botanical Garden is a natural beauty situated on an impressive 80 acres nestled between the Cape Fear River and Cross Creek just two miles from downtown Fayetteville. Cape Fear Botanical Garden is a 501(c)3 non-profit that connects everyone to nature. They have Education programs for children and adults, Private Venue locations, and places where you can sit in silence and reflect on your day.
Coming up is a celebration of imagination at the 2024 Halloween at the Boo-tanical Garden, presented by Cape Fear Valley Health. The garden will be open nightly from October 24-27.
The United States Army Airborne and Special Operations Museum
The United States Army Airborne and Special Operations Museum recounts the actions of heroic Soldiers from the early days of the Parachute Test Platoon in 1940 to the ongoing Global War on Terrorism.
This must-see museum preserves the extraordinary feats performed by the United States Army’s Airborne and Special Operations Forces, all of who jump from the sky into battle. The museum is a source of pride to all those who served, or now serve, in the United States Army Airborne and Special Operations units.
The Museum of the Cape Fear
This museum is part of the NC Dept. of Natural and Cultural Resources, opened in June of 1988, and since that time, acquired and restored the 1897 Poe House and constructed a steel semblance of one of the arsenal’s four octagonal towers.
In addition, the 1840 Culbreth House was moved on-site and restored. Combined with the museum proper, these historical resources spread nearly seven acres to create a historical complex unparalleled in the southeastern United States.
The Fayetteville History Museum
The Fayetteville History Museum is the hub for history in Downtown Fayetteville. The staff operates the museum, museum annex, and other city-owned historic sites. The museum is a wonderful educational resource for the City of Fayetteville, and it is filled with artifacts and exhibits focused on local history.
Located in the beautifully restored 1890 Cape Fear and Yadkin Valley Railroad Depot, the museum offers two floors of engaging, artifact-filled exhibits. Favorite spots in the museum include the steamboat interactive and the recreated Station Agent’s Office. Exhibits are frequently rotated.
